“Horizon of Gold” by David Najar - 2017

Born in 1962, Israeli artist David Najar did not have the support of his family, but his teachers recognized his artist skills. By age 30, he decided to create art for a living. In 2003, renowned artist Itzchak Tarkay became his mentor until his passing in 2012. Najar also learned from Lithuanian artist Moshe Rosenthalis, a World War II soldier and illustrator. Najar’s paintings are characterized by coiled brushstrokes, rippling patterns and saturated hues. He identifies as an impressionist and post-impressionist and often uses nature as inspiration – landscapes, setting sun, shadows, and water sources. Today he is considered a leading figure in the Contemporary Expressionism movement. Three of his pieces appear in tonight’s auction. This exquisite piece is a 16"x20" color giclee on paper and is signed in pencil by the artist and professionally framed.

“Shades of Autumn” by Alfred Gockel - 2011

Alfred Alexander Gockel was born in a coal mining town near Münster, Germany in 1952. His first work was published when he was 8 years old. Gockel planned to become an engineer, but at age 16 began to work in Germany’s coal mines. When the mining industry experienced a downturn, many of his town’s inhabitants were left without jobs. Gockel’s time in Germany’s mines influences his art to this day and is a major reason why he uses self-prepared tar in his acrylics. This piece is a 22"x15" seriolithograph in color on archival paper, signed in the plate and professionally framed.
